EUREC (European Network of Research Ethics Committees)

The EUREC website is an information and networking platform for Research Ethics Committees (RECs) in Europe that connects existing national REC associations, networks and comparable initiatives at European level, and promotes cooperation between committees and other bodies involved in the ethical oversight of research with human participants. For investigators and research teams, the website functions as a practical entry point to the European research ethics landscape, helping them to locate relevant committees, understand national contexts and align ethics submissions with current expectations of RECs involved in the review of clinical and other human participant research.

A central feature is the “RECs in Europe” section, which offers country‑specific pages describing national REC systems and providing access to further national information compiled by EUREC members, such as laws applying to health and non‑health‑related research. For investigator‑initiated, multi‑country studies, the country reports are particularly useful to identify which committees are competent, how systems are organised and where additional national guidance can be found. The EUREC website currently shares country profiles for 21 European Union countries and 3 non‑European Union countries, providing a rich source of information for researchers.

The website not only presents information on its Working Groups, but also gives access to webinars on key topics of interest. Its Resources section offers practical training materials on ethical issues and challenges. The Embassy of Good Science is a collaborative community platform where researchers can exchange knowledge and support one another in navigating everyday research practices and dilemmas.
