The adaptative platform trial toolbox
The Adaptive Platform Trial Toolbox was created to make practical experience from European adaptive platform trials accessible to teams planning new studies. Developed by ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) in RECOVER and EU‑RESPONSE projects, it provides a curated set of open‑access scientific and operational resources.
The toolbox is structured to support different steps in the design and conduct of adaptive platform trials:
- Trial design and conduct: general information, complex and innovative design concepts, master protocol approaches and operational considerations
- Regulations: European and international regulatory and ethical guidance relevant to platform trials
- Data management and statistics: resources on data handling, monitoring and statistical methods for adaptive and multi‑arm, multi‑stage designs
Each tool is presented with a brief explanation, including the tool’s format (e.g. guidance, template, report), source and year of publication. Users can browse by category, or search by keyword, type of tool or year of publication. Selected references can be marked and downloaded as a list, making it easy to compile a tailored set of key documents for a specific platform trial project.
For investigator‑initiated clinical studies, the toolbox can be valuable when exploring platform or adaptive designs, as it reduces methodological and operational barriers by bringing together regulatory guidance, trial examples and ready‑to‑use templates in one place.
